what's the right upgrade clutch if you do a Ktuner flash?

what's the right upgrade clutch if you do a Ktuner flash?

so I have a 2010 Civic SI coupe, if I go w/ Ktuner, many have said it will wear out the stock clutch in less than 5k KM.

I have heard some people use Clutch Master FX300, but the users said it's very hard to push down.

so

1) is there any high quality clutch that is not heavy to push down?

2) should I pick a Ceramic clutch as an upgrade? If so, what brand?

for those who have done Ktuner and using 9th generation Civic SI, what did you guys upgrade to?

Re: what's the right upgrade clutch if you do a Ktuner flash?

If you're getting a clutch that's meant to accommodate extra torque, the pressure plate is going to be stiffer, making the clutch pedal feel much firmer than stock. If you get something that feels like a stock clutch, it's probably not gonna have a higher torque capacity than the OEM.

Had a stage 1 in my 2002 civic when I was turbo'd and it felt like it was hard to push -- for like a month.. You get used to it after a while.

Yeah, kinda feel like a dick saying it, but if you're looking to push significant amounts of power (and torque, by default), it's one of those things you kinda gotta suck up. Do a bit of research and find out the torque gains from the KTuner. After that, find a clutch that has a torque rating higher than what you found.

edit: wow, didn't realize the 8thgen Si had such a low torque rating. Only 139ft-lbs stock. A quick little bit of research says the OEM clutch is good to 200ft-lbs Further research puts the Exedy stage 1 good for 193ft-lbs. I have nothing on the OEM clutch.

Alright, I'll put up w/ the stiffness when I push down the upcoming clutch

but from some of those youtube video, they break down to metal, organic, ceramic clutch etc., which is the right material?

they also break down to 6 peck, full wheel etc., again, what does other civic SI owner pick?

Re: what's the right upgrade clutch if you do a Ktuner flash?

depends on your power goals. Planning on putting massive power (and thus torque) to the ground, or are you just looking for a bit more fun in your daily driving experience?

6 puck is for high performance/race applications. Stiff as hell pressure plate putting pressure on an overall smaller surface area, increasing the clamping force applied to the flywheel. Harsh engagement makes them less daily driving friendly

Full face, while it can be used for performance applications depending on the clutch, is more suitable for daily driving.

As for compounds, think of those compounds as it relates to brake pads. It's the same concept applied differently. One surface applying pressure to another surface in order to make them match speed. Really the only difference is brake pads are stationary (causing the car to stop) and clutch friction discs are in a variable state of speed (causing the input shaft speed to meet crankshaft speed).

Long story short, organic is more friendly for a daily driver, while ceramic is more for high performance/race applications. I really haven't looked into kevlar or ferrometallic clutches, since I never quite ventured out of the realm of spirited daily driving/light autocross applications. Even less now that I don't have a manual tranny.

Re: what's the right upgrade clutch if you do a Ktuner flash?

I only drive 8400 km per year. But the reason I want the Ktuner, is that I want to boost 40 or so HP into the car, so when I accelerate, it can go faster from 0 to 100 km/hr. So w/ gadget like Ktuner, they all recommend a more durable clutch, and 1 video even ask to replace the fork as well as ???

it sounds like full face ceramic could be something I want to consider if it's not too stiff, as they said organic wear out faster, and I like fast acceleration as soon as red light turns to green light. So for people like that, would it be "high performance / race " then?

If you're only looking at a 40whp increase, I'd go stage 1 organic at most.

well, I won't mind more than 40HP, but I have seen kraftwerk fails from 2 youtube video. So as long as we are not adding parts, just tuning w/ the software, I'll go for whatever that software can re-program the ECU

I just don't want to add any parts, and find out 6 mth. down the road, that part fails
