Civic Hybrid white smoke from exhaust
Civic Hybrid white smoke from exhaust
Car is six hours away, trying to remote help my son who owns it. I am in no means an auto mechanic. Not sure of the year model, I think it may be a 2010 or so. Small 4 cylinder hybrid. He starting getting sputtering, etc so told him to run a code reader on it. He got P0301, P0302, P0300, P0303 which is misfires on multiple cylinders. So, obvious thing is to change plugs. He bought new ones and changed them out. No change, engine still running terribly. So then changed out all the coil packs. No change. After some research he did and checking around with people, he decided to change the fuel injectors. After changing them is where things got worse. The car is now blowing out white smoke out of the exhaust, so much so that he is afraid to drive it. Car is not overheating. He was also getting a blinking "D" on the dash indicators, but I think that alarm went away. I'll have to re-check on that as well as any new codes.
Can someone clue me in in simple terms on what this could be?

OK, can you tell me the possible things that can cause this and is this an easy fix? Also, it was not outputting the white smoke before he changed the fuel injectors. Is there any way that process could be causing this?

Re: Civic Hybrid white smoke from exhaust
He probably should have left the injectors alone, they were probably fine and he just wasted money. If the injectors were dumping extra fuel that would be black smoke like a diesel.
It's probably a blown headgasket, you're probably going to have to take it to a shop

Yeah, I got no impression that the injectors were bad given what you were describing. Is he positive that it's white smoke and not steam? And is he letting it warm up properly? And is he driving it enough to be in a situation where it would actually overheat? Perhaps we can see a video of what he's seeing?
I understand I'm bombarding you with questions and I apologize, but I need to clarify some things before making any informed recommendations.

Re: Civic Hybrid white smoke from exhaust
He has not let it run very long, he is concerned it is causing damage. But in the limited time he has let it run, he said it is not overheating. Not sure if it is indeed smoke and not steam. Will verify tomorrow.
Thank you all for your answers thus far.
One more question - I realize I need to answer more questions here...Is it safe to drive this car to a nearby mechanic/shop?
