Fuel Smell in Cabin
Hi,
No Mechanic here just a Guy with a 2012 Honda Civic. Four months back I loaned the car to my grown Son and GF. When I got the car back I noted fuel smell in the cabin at low speed or idle. I only smelled the gas with the fresh air vent open. I could not smell gas when the fresh air vent was closed. No check engine light visible. Told the kids about the issue and asked if they had any issues. They said no, and in fact took the car to a quick lube for an oil change.
Took Vehicle to local Mechanic shop. They advised it was a difficult problem but they changed the O rings on the injectors and the problem was fixed. (It wasn't, I continued to smell fuel))
then
Took car to local Honda Dealership. They advised they checked the fuel lines and system in every way possible and could detect no leak. (I continued to smell gas)
then
Conducted independent study on the internet with the result of thinking I should change the "Evaporation cannister" "Purge valve" and/or "Cannister solenoid" with the understanding I do not have a check engine light illuminating, and am just shooting at the problem at this point.
then
Called Honda dealership and advised what I had found. The service lady was very short and dismissive saying unless they could repeat the problem (I smell gas every time I start it up incidentally) they saw no reason to "to start throwing parts into it." Saying, "We pressurized and leak tested the fuel system three times and we just could not find a malfunction and no smoke escaped from the system."
then
I asked if she would have any suggestions of where to go from here and she said, "No"
