2015 9th Gen Civic Crank Position Sensor CKP or Cam Sensor 1.8L

2015 9th Gen Civic Crank Position Sensor CKP or Cam Sensor 1.8L

History:
175K miles from uber driving. Original owner. ALL STOCK NO Mods.

I will be doing repairs on my friends 2015 Civic. He has a couple of codes - I will [edit this post when I get the codes] My friend has already purchased non-oem Cam and Crank sensors. Other than this problem the car was running fine.

NOTE: Key fob batter CR1620 is dead. Measures .012v The car has not been driven in about 6 months since it suddenly died. I suspect the solutions is to put a new battery in the keyfob which I had to order on Amazon since local big box stores don't stock it.

Symptoms: Car will start but not stay running. [ My friend claimed that Codes indicated crank position sensor or Cam sensor?]

I'm highly experienced at repairs but did not find any youtube videos on this subject - possibly because 8th gen is the same? Last Honda I worked on was 2003 Civic EX.

I was going to unplug the Cranks sensor and see if the car starts but enters limp mode / won't run above 3,500 rpm. If yes then I will replace the Crank sensor. If no I will replace the cam sensor. I have a Hayes repair manual.

Any suggestions or links about how to proceed would be appreciated I searched this forum and look for videos on Youtube.

2nd question: Oil Dipstick melted so there is just a small stub at the top just below the o-rings has anyone encountered this?

3rd Question: The metal screws (see attached picture) I've never seen anything like it. Does a #2 sized tip Philips screwdriver work?

Never seen screws like this.

Thanks!

Why is the dipstick melted? Did they overheat the engine?

Return the non OEM sensors and buy OEM ones, just throwing money away otherwise.

It is my friends car and he bought it brand new but put a lot of miles on it doing Uber / Lyft and food delivery. He didn't know the dipstick had melted. I did not install the aftermarket CKP sensor because I did the test where I unplugged it then tried to start the engine - it did not start indicating there was a problem other then the CKP sensor.
