I have 2013 Civic that will start but I need to turn the key several times. I put key in the ignition, turn key, all power turns on fine but when I go to crank there is nothing, maybe a faint click but that is it. It is intermittent, eventually after a few tries it will start up fine. It cranks as if there was not an issue at all, it sounds strong when it does crank and start. It is very odd, I do not want to get stranded and I'm trying to avoid any dealer cost. Please any help would be great, thanks.

next time it does it have a friend crank it while you tap on the starter and starter solenoid with a piece of PVC, wood , metal... whatever will reach. If it starts when you tap on it the starter and/or solenoid will need to be replaced.

Auto parts stores can test starters if they are removed from the car.

You should also test voltage at the cable leads on starter solenoid to see if it's getting proper 12v when ignition is engaged.

Thanks HR PUF, I wanted to remove the starter from the equation completely and since I had an available Sunday I just went and bought one from Auto Zone. Not too hard getting the old one out but boy it was a pain getting the new one back in. Civic starts nice and strong now and have not had one episode of turning the key and no start, so I'm about 99.9% sure this resolved the issue. Thanks
