Possible leak. Taken from under car, near driver's side wheel. What is the fluid and what part of the engine is this?
my worry is that there's a bad gasket or something here

Yup small leak, oil coated with dirt; for it to be covered with that much dust, it's been leaking for a while. Just leave it. If you dont see any liquid droplets you're fine.

If you're concerned just check the oil level and top up, as needed.
