Best Steps to take?
Best Steps to take?
So I want to start boosting my 09' Civic Ex, it has the R18 engine. I was looking at the Kraftwerks Supercharger kits. I don't have the tools or space to work on it myself so I'm probably going to find a local tuning shop to do it for me. If I were to do this, what else would I have to do to ensure the car sates relatively stable i.e. Would I need a Stage 2 clutch as opposed to my current Stage 1? Would I have to get a transmission swap? I'm already in need of new suspension as what I have is getting a little soft so I have that covered. I already understand that this'll be expensive I'd just like some pointers.
Re: Best Steps to take?
Kraftwerks is a good brand, don't they specify what prerequisites you need? I installed one on my brother's '14 Si and I thought it specified a clutch torque rating.

Re: Best Steps to take?
they prolly recommend a new clutch over stock. If you have a stage 1, find out the torque capacity specs on it. It'll vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Then cross reference that with how much torque you'll be making. Does the max torque capacity of the clutch exceed that of the torque gain the SC will produce? Then you're good to go.
basically...
clutch torque capacity > torque produced -- good to go. If it's close, I'd upgrade
clutch torque capacity = torque produced -- upgrade
clutch torque capacity < torque produced -- definitely upgrade
as far as internals go, how much boost is the SC going to run? I don't have the specs for the R18, but I know the D17 was good on stock internals for up to 8-10psi depending on the tune

Re: Best Steps to take?
About the clutch it does look like I'd have to grab one with a higher torque capacity. Recommendations would be appreciated.
It looks like the SC will boost somewhere around 10psi. It does look like it may be able to handle it, under the assumption it isn't what would you recommend I upgrade?

ACT and exedy are always good choices. clutchmasters good, too. If you don't have a lightweight flywheel, now would be a good time to upgrade to one of those, too. Less rotational mass means you'll transmit more of the power to the wheels. WIll also take some getting used to driving with one.
Internals, depends on how much you wanna spend and how much faith you have in the tuner. From the "it may be able to handle it part," I'd fail safe and put internal upgrades in your to-do list. If you're not 100% certain it'll be fine, and it isn't, that's gonna cost a whole hell of a lot more than just doing it from the get-go

That's what we're here for my dude. We've seen and done a lot and here to spread some knowledge. Do a build thread and ask a **** ton of questions if you ever run into any. I'm sure someone will have an answer, or at least a direction to take
just keep this in mind: tuning will make or break your setup. Make sure whoever tunes your car is good

Hi,
To be quite frank, you're going to need everything new and upgraded to handle the added speed. So this includes Rotors, Pads and the the like. To give you a broader picture you're likely to want to maximize your hp potential "if you will" so a new transmission would be great to swap so yes that's a good step to take as well as and upgraded exhaust system because the Turbo you're looking at runs off that system in particular.
