convert LX head to EX - very interesting - not for the faint of the heart :)
warning - this procedure should not be attempted by anyone that does not have mechanical skills. (advanced, at the least).
found in another forum and thought it was very interesting what one can do when determined.
Naturally, he did not ask, just went and did it himself. IF you think like asking a question, do not bother, you likely not qualified to attempt this :P - I did not do it either, just sharing

Well as some of ya'll know, I blew the civic up last week. So instead of going out and buying a ex head, we decided to try something that we've been thinking about trying but haven't had a reason too. Converting a lx head into a ex head. We will know for sure if it works hopefully by the end of the week once I get the car back together. Anyways here's some pics of the process so far. Huge thanks to DJ for coming out and helping with this.

Let the drilling begin.

Small holes drilled first

Holes bored out

Converted LX on top.

one more:
Damnn.... Such hate. Anyways update, apparently the hub never shipped out my head gasket i ordered from auto zone on sunday so it will be here tomorrow. I got the block back in. Everything is bolted up that I can get on besides the head. Might get the head bolted down tomorrow after work.

and follow some important notes from the conversion:
Yeah that's basically the only difference between the blocks. As for the head, this really isn't cost effective unless you damage your ex head and have a lx head laying around. Cause you would still have to buy the ex cam and rocker arm assembly... My head gasket should come in today, so there might be more to come tonight pending on the mood I'm in when I get off work.
LX TO EX CONVERSION = SUCCESS!
Fired her up this evening around 5:30. Sounded stronger than ever. Finished buttoning her up and took her out for a drive. I have a video I'll get up in a little bit. But she went straight past 4500 without hitting the limiter, so I'm calling it a successful conversion!

hopefully the drilled holes hold up to the hot/cold cycling of the engine over time without cracking. only time will tell i guess, but there is a reason these things are cast in the original head. otherwise it would be much cheaper for companies to drill and machine them later. and the size of the holes being even 1mm off will affect oil pressure, which can change vtec activation conditions via the pressure sensor.

heya, steve
thanks for the input - yeah, there are several unknown factors in attempting stuff no one or few have tried before. (that's another reason i said for gearheads only, they will know that if they mess up, that's their own fault :P)
