They asked me for a clear coat on my ride and I said forget it for that extra cash I got other mods, I will just wax my ride plus I don't plan on keeping it as long as my last civic, just a stepping stone to the new Accord V6 Manual till I get that extra cash saved up and a new job

Nick your car has clear coat on it anyway, All cars now a days come with clear coat. They probably were talking about have something applied to your paint....that would make your paint shiny all the time. Something that you would just have to touch up once a month and not have to wax it. But they werent talking about Clear coat because your car has it.

they do use the words clear coat here in canada... they threw it at my parents with their sunfire in 97, their van in 01, and they asked me if i wanted it when i bought my civic.... but i had been previously informed its just a gimmick to get extra money out of you when you really don't need to buy it... as all new cars have it already

When I worked at the VW/Audi/Porsche dealer the Aftersales guy used to sell teflon coating for $1500 extra. He claimed that this coating would last the life time of the car and you would never have to wax your car again. The paint would stay shiny and glossy. Guess what, We never applied this so called Teflon Coating and we never sent the car out to have it done, do you know why? This stuff that people were paying for didnt exist. People can be so gullible sometimes. Thankgod I know all about car dealers and there tricks. If you guys have any questions regarding car dealers, I will be happy to share all my information with you. I also worked at FORD. You wouldnt believe some of the stuff that went on there.

If you have a car with base coat, it HAS to have a clearcoat applied. Have you ever seen a car WITHOUT a clearcoat? It would look almost like sandpaper! I have seen many cars before clearcoat(I painted my last car), and you simply cannot do it! It's obvious, it looks like s#!t without it. The only paint you can do without clearcoat is ENAMEL, which is one hell of a strong paint, but harder to make look good. You can't wetsand enamel, so you have to spray it perfect the first time. My father paints his little fishing boat with enamel, and it looks good for a boat, but we stick with the clearcoat/basecoat for the cars. Plus, clearcoat is so easy to fix and work with, you just got to understand what you are doing.

Thanks civicdude for educating me on that, because my parents bought the car I didn't totally get to hear what they wanted to put on when we bought it. I just know my sister goes down every few mths and they put something on her car I guess wax it or something.

they put paint sealant on it, does same stuff as wax, but its easier to apply and the dealership is all about easy stuff.
