New Paint Job.........

Hey everyone. I just got my car repainted blue because a week ago it got vandalized and the vandals managed to get every body panel scratched. Well, I just got it back and the people said I couldn't wax my car for a month. I can still wash it and all, but I know that the paint isn't totally curred, so what is the best way to take care of my unprotected paint until I can wax it and not scratch the heck out of it?

if you can try storing it in a garage whenever possible to keep elements off. Frequent washes are a must. Minimal- one wash per week I would suggest twice if you have the time, just basic washing. You should really check on the time frame of waxing, usually you can't apply wax for 2-3 months not 1 month, after getting a total paint job. After everything has cured I recommend doing a meguires 3-step process, posibly two coats of each process. Final results will look better than when the car is new.

The guy at the dealership said that it would take 1 month and then you can wax it. Are you sure it is more than 1 month?

I hear also that you aren't supposed to wash your car with soap for like a month, just use water and use a terry cloth or something to clean it off. Is that true?

the soap should not be a problem as long as it's car soap, it's meant not to affect your paint
as for the time, I've had other cars which have been painted and I've been told to wait about 3 months but if that's what the guy says maybe he's right. I'd play it safe and try waxing a small section first and see how it turns out then go about doing the rest of the car. This way if it get screwed up after one month go back to the guy and make him do it over cause he gave you the wrong advice.

I won't worry about it, I will just keep the paint clean and wash it as much as possible, I will probably keep it safe and let the paint cure for 2 months. I don't know if this is how all the paint shops do it, but the dealership painted it, clear coated it, and then I guess you could say they baked it for several hours. I don't know if this method will cut down on the time for my paint to cure. I though most places just painted it and let the paint cure. Another thing is that I live in Houston and it gets pretty hot. Would that speed up the process of letting the paint cure? Thank you everyone for your help!

Wash the car as often as possible (within reason, once a weak). DO NOT let bird crap stay on the paint for any period of time. It will stain almost immediately once in the sun. Bugs do the same thing. I suggest getting a reputable spray cleaner and keep it with the car along with some clean rags. If an accident occurs, remove it immediately. Also, if you want your new paint to stay shinny, I suggest a product called 3M gloss enhancer. This product is used by paint shops to give new paint a just waxed look without using wax (which will not harm new paint, but will slow the curing process by preventing the solvents in the paint from excaping.) Good luck and keep it clean
