how to clean engine

Just have a couple of questions cleaning the engine.

I need to buy engine degreaser to clean the engine part? Which brand is good? I can get it from Autozone/Pepboys? I know there's a DIY in the forum, but not sure which part I need to cover and not spray any water over it? My friend told me take out the battery first and after washing with water, don't drive the car for a couple of days. Is it necessary? It doesn't mention in the DIY thread.

What's the most important thing that I have to be careful cleaning the engine (except letting the engine cool down first)?

Thanks.

Simple Green is good, or any citrus based degreaser.

You need to cover your air filter and battery terminals. I wash my engine bay every wkend and just leave it sit for a few hrs and it is good to go
