2005 motor swapped to a 2001 car

Has anyone swapped a 2005 1.7l vtec engine into a 2001 1.7l vtec car? Just did this, now getting a p0336 code. Replaced the crankshaft postion sensor and now runs even worse. Is it a possible difference ith the ecms. I have the 2005 ecm and ignition so I could swap them too.

01 uses a narrow band Air/Fuel sensor, 05 uses a wideband sensor. The 2 types will not interchange, as narrowband signsl range is 0-1v and wide is 0-5v.

not sure about your other sensor issues though.

Will moving the 05 ecm to the 01 body fix that issue?

Did you swap the EGR over as well? Did you use an OEM sensor?

Used the Egr that was n the 05 motor. It was a full motor tranny swap. This whole thing started because the tranny on the 01 died. The 05 motor had fewer miles on it. It seemed like it would be easier to swap both motor and tranny as a single unit than to split them up.

Need to use the 05 ecu then, swap over the immobilizer and key cylinder otherwise the car won't start

Re: 2005 motor swapped to a 2001 car

I just saw this. If it's a D17A2 for D17A2, it should be a straight swap. Have you checked for any codes after the swap? Even if the CEL isn't illuminated, there could be a stored code giving you a direction of where to go. I would check that before swapping ECUs and having to go through the trouble of swapping key cylinders. Chances are if it's not the ECU, you did all that work for nothing.

Source: My 2002 EX got a 2004 engine swapped into it with no other changes. Used all sensors, EGR valve, etc. that were attached to that 2004's engine, but I kept all my 2002's O2 sensors and ECU
