D15b with d17a2 head?
D15b with d17a2 head?
I recently bought and installed my engine and now ready to boost it. It has a block stamp of d15b and the head has a stamp ple7! Everywhere I searched says it’s not possible but I can prove it and it runs just fine. My question is that is it possible? And also what gaskets should I use to rebuild for the turbo?
Re: D15b with d17a2 head?
I'm not exactly sure how it works, but there's a D15B that looks identical to the D17. You obviously have one of those.
OEM gaskets will be fine. You won't be running enough power for it to be an issue.

Re: D15b with d17a2 head?
So that’s where it gets interesting, I basically plugged and played with the original d17a2 car, ecu and all! I would love to know what the engine is from because I can’t find it anywhere. It has d15b stamp and the head is for sure d17 because of the 5 bolt pattern for the exhaust. Also it is not the three stage vtec as the engine came with one solenoid. Just confused where to go with this engine. Obd2 setup with obd1 engine?
Re: D15b with d17a2 head?
Definitely still OBD2. Anything D17 was offered between 2001 and 2005. I'm guessing it's some economical JDM variant but I would be interested to know more. Any time I find one on eBay, it just says it's for 2001-2005 civics, so I'm guessing Honda just released these as replacement engines?
Edit: Not sure if this D15B block is the same as the old ones, but you can get a pretty gnarly Vitara setup on them for cheap, and they've made upwards of 400hp (they've made over 500, but not cheaply).

Re: D15b with d17a2 head?
That’s what I’m after and even speaking with Honda techs that’s been doing it for years they have no idea what engine combination I have, it’s just weird but looks like I will have to order lower end parts for the d15 and top end for the d17. 🤷♂️ I have a turbo setup ready to go and looking for 400+ hp and I know with around 800$ I can have a lower end to put up with that hp gain
