Thornton Chip
Thornton Chip
Has anyone used this?
I have a CAI and that's it. It idles funky at stop lights so I am sure the IAC needs to be cleaned- just noticed- IAC is CAI backwards, weird. I was thinking of getting it tuned and saw the chip as a possible option. It wont' help the idle, I don't think, but if it helps the car overall, I'd be ok with that.
Thanks again!

Re: Thornton Chip
Ok, then it is just the IAC, which is a good thing.
Thornton came up as one of the tuning chips on the google machine. Good reviews, but when I searched here, didn't see anything. That's why I asked.
I bought the car used. Is there anything I can get to check the tuning to make sure it's what it's supposed to be?

Re: Thornton Chip
AND that is why i joined the forum.. Had no idea.
So, stupid question. You mentioned before after stage 1 require engine management change. Does that mean you have to get a whole new ECU for that? Is there a benefit for that if I am primarily keeping it stock? I know some cars benefit from some additional HP but reduced MPG when going to a new one. Is there hidden power in the civic? Sorry for the newbie questions, but in this realm, I am a total noob.

Re: Thornton Chip
The ECU gets replaced with a K series ECU, which can then get Kpro added to allow tuning.
There's really no HP to gain with the stock engine. With a stage 1 cam, intake, header, and exhaust I think you could get 20-30 HP. Quite a bit of money for such small gains.
