What should I do with my old engine?

So I just purchased a 2005 honda civic coupe manual transmission with 190,000 miles on it. I wanted to put upgrades and a few mods on it but nothing too crazy or too expensive. I was wondering if the time comes that i do need to swap the engine, should I go for a k20 or find a d17 with a lower mileage?

Easiest and cheapest is another d17, if you actually want a power increase then a k20. Buy a wrecked/rotted RSX so you have everything you need for the swap and you can sell the stuff you don't need to recoup some of your money

7th gen civics were designed as ecoboxes.
not much to be gained in terms of power

some reached 300k+ on these if well maintained

Swapping a K is always great. It’s really up to you. If the time comes to replace the engine, use your old one to practice rebuilding.
I used my old engine for rebuild. I took my time and bought quality parts. It’s always good to learn how to rebuild an engine.

Just get another D. I'm making assumptions here, but it doesn't sound like you want to spend the money required to swap a K-series into it.

If you're looking for something to mod on a low budget, just buy an old civic (1992-2000 are the best). B-series engines are basically drop-in which have way higher potential than a D-series.

Thank you for the suggestion. Im actually open to spending the required money for a K series in the future but not as of right now.. Im kinda new to the whole modding and im not yet too crazy into getting more hp for the car.. But i'll keep all your suggestions in mind!! Thanks again!!
