Metal Shavings in Steering column

Hi, I have a 2001 Honda Civic LX sedan, 5spd and a while back I got a recall about metal shavings in the steering column. Five months ago the steering went from really messed up to being 100% fine, so I guessed that the metal shavings worked their way out of the steering column? Anyways... within the last 2 months my car makes a high pitched "whirrrrrr" sound when I'm taking sharp turns in first gear or even just going into first gear... is this my clutch or could it be related to the metal shavings thing? my email is urbngemini@aol.com.... thanks
*Rebecca
