Cold immobilizer causes no start

I have a 2002 Honda Civic EX, crank no start when 20F out. It turns out it is the immobilizer. If I heat the key and steering column with a blow dryer or a hot water bottle, it will start. Note: I keep my keys in the car. They freeze too.

Notice on the dash the green key light. In key position II it should come on for a sec then should go out. It it doesn’t go out, that’s what is keeping the car from starting. The fuel pump is being cut out. It’ll crank but not start. Also, flashing green key light is bad.

Does it start fine if the keys aren't kept in the car?

Re: Cold immobilizer causes no start

Don’t know and here’s why. I epoxied my one and only chipped key to the column next to the sensor. (I don’t want to pay the price to get spare chipped keys). This way any cut key will work.

This works fine except for now, this first time it’s seen 20F overnight.

Warm up the area and the flashing green light disappears in the II position. And the car starts.

I just offer this as a possible fix when the immobilizer is keeping your car from starting on cold mornings.

Fair enough, I did a similar thing with my truck. Don't have that issue though. Maybe you could use a small space heater connected to a timer to turn on a few mins before you have to leave.
