SRS Code 9-3

Background.
- USA spec. 2002 Honda Civic EX Coupe, Automatic.
- the car is in South Korea.
- the car does not have side airbags.

I bought the car for $500, with basically no know history. The car had a SRS light on, when I bought it. I'd also noticed that the seatbelt icon came on for about 1/2 a second then turned off. It didn't matter if the drivers belt buckle was buckled or not.

So, after jumping the 4/9 position on the OBD-II port, the computer displayed 9 long flashes, followed by 3 quick flashes for the red SRS light. The computer repeated the cycle several times, until I got bored.

I ordered up a used (LHD / USA spec.) drivers female belt buckle and upon arrival I'd installed the belt buckle by removing the seat, removing the single bolt that holds the buckle to the seat frame.

Upon installing the replacement used buckle, I noticed the seat belt icon would now illuminate when the buckle was released. I jumpered the yellow connector and followed the procedure to clear the SRS light. I attempted this code clearing procedure about 6 times, before I gave up. The code will not clear. Next, I jumped the 4/9 position on the OBD-II port, and retrieved the SRS 9-3 code again. However, this time the code only flashed 9 long flashes, followed by 3 quick flashes and stopped. There was no repeating of the SRS code, like there was before.

Other than trying to take this to the Honda dealer that is about 2.5 hours away, is there anything else that someone would recommend? Anything I can check with a DVOM or anything? I'd be happy to throw some parts at it, providing its 9-3 SRS code related.

Is the female belt buckle a one time accident part only? Would an accident affect this part?

Re: SRS Code 9-3

Maybe the used seat belt buckle has the same fault as your old one. Personally this was an issue with me and I had to replace the buckle with a new Honda part ot fix. It is very common apparently (same as a breached head gasket ugh).

There are Youtube videos showing how to clean the switch in the buckel if that is a route you wish to pursue.
