Slappy steering

So my 7th gen civic has this issue where the steering feel so sloppy and always go side to side depending on the road. Took it to alignment and all the wheels are in green zone. My control arms are brand new even though i was having the issue before I replaced the control arms, but after I replaced it I still have the issue. Tie rods are new as well, ball joints are on there for over a year now but they are no issues with any of the listing parts. For some weeks ago I can hear this noise coming from the front right wheel when I lock all the way to the left, only, but not sure what causing it, my mind tells me it could be my rack and pinion. check out this link for the sound.

The EP3 is electric, not hydraulic. So no.

Re: Slappy steering

What year did they start using electric on the Ep3 civic? I swear I saw one online yesterday and it say it was compatible with Ep3, Em2 and some other Acura.

Re: Slappy steering

EP3 had EPS all years, '02-'05. You can do an EPS swap into an EM2 but it's not a direct stock replacement.

Re: Slappy steering

So I just check my service manual for rebuilding instructions on my rack and pinion but I was unable to see any information on it. All it shows is to remove it. So if anyone has that information or can provide me with that instructions I would appreciate it.

Did you look at pages 17-39 to 17-56? It's definitely in there.

Re: Slappy steering

Well, I didn’t. I only look where it said section 10-1 and that’s what I saw. It shouldn’t be hard to disassemble it and put in new seals and put it back together though.

Honestly, no idea what you're looking at. Section 10 is for engine cooling in the service manual. Download the service manual from the link below and open the .pdf that's the largest. Then go to 17-39.

Re: Slappy steering

You have to unzip the file first, inside you will find the service manual. Not sure if you can unzip from a phone.

Re: Slappy steering

I was wrong earlier when I mentioned that my service manual was Haynes. It’s that chilton stuff I have. It’s so damn complicated to me. It doesn’t show any page 17 ,18 like others. It shows like 1b-7, 0-9, 10-1,2c-5 and so an.

so I just trying to repair this rock and pinion but I’m wondering how to take off one end of the rock pinion so I could get to change the seals. I have picture of one where shafts goes to the steering not sure if that’s the end should be hit with a hammer and separate it. I also take out the ring fro the other end thinking it would come out afterwards but I was wrong. Help me

Did you look in the service manual? It shows how to disassemble the entire rack.

Re: Slappy steering

I look in the service manual I have ( not a Honda type service manual) but i can’t seem to find anything. I saw a page that mention about rack but it’s nothing about taking it apart. I figured it out and took it apart. Thanks anyway. There is a seal that down inside the house that I cant seem to take out and if I should use a seal puller it would be soo difficult to get the puller to get under the seal to pull it out. The reason why I want to repair the rack is because when I’m driving I can’t literally feel the steering going left and right in my hand on some road, took it to check on the alignment and everything is fine. My ball joints are find. Hun and everything shocks struts are fine so my only other option is the rack. When I unclip the metal clips from around the rubber Boots I have oil coming from all of them. That tells me that there are leaks in the housing of the rack.
