I have a 2 hour and a half trip to make, about eh 130 miles. My driver side front tire only has 3 lug out of the 4 lug nuts. I have been driving it like so for a year, and have made 5 trips to and from on this same trip with no issues. However, since it's been a year since it snapped, I got a little worried. It's a pain to replace the stud and stud due to the whole wheel bearing having to be taken out; theres no clearance to get the stud out.
If the wheel doesnt wobble when shaking it, is it still safe to drive? It's got 3 out of the 4 studs on it tightened properly at 80ft lbs of torque. I do plan on replacing it eventually, but I do not have time to before the trip. I am scared the wheel is going to fall off.
When I have the time, I'm gonna take it apart. Where could I take the wheel assembly to have it pressed by a hydraulic press?
Are you sure you can't replace a stud without removing the hub? The dust shield can be taken off, I would think that would give you enough room.
I'm not sure, would you be able to provide some concise instructions on that? I just havent seen anywhere online where that's an option. Just sawing off the backing plate/shield was the only other thing I saw.. which I dont want to attempt.
If you take off the caliper and rotor you should be able to get to a couple phillips screws that hold the dust shield on. From their you can get the studs out and pressed back in.

I see, I could definitely see about that. I would have to take a look at my assembly for sure. And, taking the dust shield off wouldn't require me to press anything with a hydraulic press?
Also, getting the stud back in, I just have to hammer it in or is there a better/proper technique?
You know, I may be wrong. I have never tried removing a dust shield. From the picture though it looks like the shield goes all the way around the hub and is smaller than the hub so it won't come off with the hub still there.

Yea. It's quite unfortunate for such a simple thing. I feel it's one of the flaws on the civic.
The tire doesnt have any play. So the ball joint is good. You think I could eventually take the assembly out and know a place I can get it pressed? I dont have time for it before my trip back to my college, so I gotta risk it.
Basically any auto shop should be able to replace the stud for you. I would shop around for quotes though. Sometimes spending a little extra at the dealer for the peace of mind is worth it.
If you have been driving on 3 nuts for a year I wouldn't expect any change. Just drive easy and be careful, there are four studs for a reason.
