Drum Brake Brake Line size

The hard brake line rusted through on my son's 2001 civic, need to buy the line to replace it and want to make sure I get the correct line (the first time). What is the size of the fittings, and anyone know the length? I am not with the car and need to drive a distance from any parts store to work on it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
John

Should be 3/16th line and m10 fitting, you need bubble flares.
Parts stores sell lengths of line preflared at both ends that you bend to shape. One of those might work for you. Use the copper-nickel line

Re: Drum Brake Brake Line size

I picked up a handful, different lengths they are all marked 3/16 x 12, one is 3/8-24 one end and 10mmx1.0.

I'm thinking I want 10mmx1.0 on both ends with 3/16" line, correct?

Yep 10x1.0 you should probably do the other side as well, or at least plan to do it in the near future

All of the lines were rusted in, finally ended up cutting the line on the master cylinder side of the rubber hose, putting a junction in and then new rubber hose and hardline from the hose to the wheel hub and everything sealed up nicely. Thanks for the help.

We lost a lot of fluid in the process, I'll say a majority of it was laying in my driveway. when we went to bleed the brakes with engine not running, initially the pedal hardened up nicely, after starting the engine and a test drive lost pedal feel. If I put it all the way to the floor it would brake, but, it was nearly at the floor. I brought it back in the garage and pulled all 4 tires checking for leaks, didn't see any and the fluid level was fine. I pumped up the brakes with the engine not running and they got semi hard again but as soon as I start the engine the feel goes away,

Two things come to mind:
  • The master cylinder, while bleeding the travel on it is further than normal, could this have gotten to a bad spot on the shaft and damaged a seal?
  • The ABS, back when ABS first came out, I remember an issue if the ABS lost fluid you had to use a different method to get them bled, is that true? This is a 2001 with about 110,000 miles.
Any other thoughts?

Thanks again,
John

Re: Drum Brake Brake Line size

the master may have gone dry and there could still be some air bubbles in the lines,
for the abs, if you can brake hard enough to activate the system a few times that should do it

Re: Drum Brake Brake Line size

Think I got it. A few hard brakes then bled the rear passenger original problem area, got a lot of air. Finally no air. Took it for a test drive and nice firm feel.

Thanks for your help
