Hybrid AT sudden failure question?
Hybrid AT sudden failure question?
Hello All,
I work on vintage Honda motorcycles but my 2003 1.3 l Hybrid is having a problem that’s beyond me.
It’s been a difficult year so I had no choice but to run around with bad motor mounts.
Last week I finally got the mounts and of course the same day my transmission stopped working.
I was rolling on from a stop, turning right, when the car stopped moving.
No ugly sounds like bad clunking or grinding, just a whirring sound coming from somewhere in the engine compartment.
I have checked the shifter and cable, the throw is fine and I can shift through the gears, it just won’t engage in any gear.
The speedo does NOT move when revving the engine and everything looks good with no apparent leaks or damage.
Upon further reflection, quite recently (a week or so) there was a little bit of vibration taking right turns?
If any of you good people have an idea what I’m up against, this car car has been just fantastic for the last 220’000 miles and was meticulously serviced for the first 150’000 miles, by the local Honda dealer that sold us the car new.
It had the transmission serviced at 150’000 miles, always shifted just fine without any problems and the fluid is a little dark, but at the proper level.
There were no signs of the transmission going bad, like rough shifting, slipping or anything so that it makes me wonder what happened to my tough as nails Civic?

Re: Hybrid AT sudden failure question?
My first thought is the CVT belt broke (assuming it isn't a manual trans). That would explain the loss of motion and no speedometer reading (differential driven).
