Torque converter

Hey guys, I just bought a 2005 civic lx sedan. Supposedly the torque converter is bad. Going to be buying one soon, in the meantime I figured I’d start tear down. I can’t find anything specific on torque converter on YouTube. Was wondering if I have to take out the entire transmission to get access and replace. Thanks for any advice

Re: Torque converter

Yes the trans has to come out, trans is most likely junk as well. Hope you only paid like $1k or less for the car.

Re: Torque converter

I paid $1200 for the car. The car will drive for a tiny bit but when it warms up after a couple minutes it won’t move anymore. Checked trans fluid. Didn’t see any metal or any burnt smell. Obviously they could’ve flushed it. Hoping it’s just converter. I see trans prices have skyrocketed

Re: Torque converter

Personally never seen a Honda with a bad converter, usually it's the trans

Re: Torque converter

After I got it home I found this solonoid on the front top area of the transmission. Definitely leaking. Hoping this could be causing the issue. It’s weird it will drive in forward and reverse for a little bit til it seems like it’s warmed up and then it just revs while in gear. Turn the car off, let it cool. Start it again and it will drive again.
