Car pops out of 2nd gear when turning
Car pops out of 2nd gear when turning
I recently got my hands on a clean 2003 Honda Civic hatchback 1.4L, with a manual transmission. It's the first civic I've had in roughly 15 years!
The only problem it has, is that when turning right (I believe it also affects left turns) in 2nd gear, it pops into neutral.
It only does this whilst turning, never when moving straight. 2nd gear is also the only gear affected.
Is it possible that this is either a bushings, linkage or mounts issue? The car has only had one owner from new and it has a good service record. The car has done 97k miles.
I'd love any thoughts on this, as I'm on disability and don't have a lot of money.
Thank you.

open it up and replace. come back here to feedback
2nd popping out of gear was common on 02, not 03 cars.
moved thread to proper section

I've read a lot of threads here about transmission issues, but none of the ones I read had the issue specifically when turning.

def check transmission side mount. That can attribute to it. Fixing that and doing a tranny fluid change using GM or Pennzoil Synchromesh will be a bandaid, but not a permanent fix. The issue typically resided in worn synchros
This is true for the 1.7L transmissions. I'm not sure if that was the culprit in non-North American markets. At least, I'm assuming you're in possibly a Euro market since the 1.4L never made it to North America
