2002 Civic JDM transmission question

I have been working on my buddys 2002 Civic and he bought a 52,000 mile transmission from Japan. The stock axle boot ripped earlier this year when I put the car into gear and was making banging noises. I measured it as best as I could and ordered the longest axle they had for the passenger side on rock auto. While on the stand the car engaged like it should and went into reverse and drive smoothly. Yesterday I took the car off the jackstands and I put it into gear and it didnt move amd was making these banging noises. I just dont know if a right hand car transmission on a American made Civic would require a special size axle or if this is actually the transmission having problems or the torque converter. Transmission fluid is at level.

Re: 2002 Civic JDM transmission question

The axles are the same for US and JDM transmissions but different for manual and automatic. If the axles are fully seated, it sounds like the problem is the transmission itself. Maybe it can spin the wheels freely when there is no load on it (jacked up) but is failing under load when you try to drive it.
