Tyler method for 2004 has it worked?

Well guys, my tranny has been slipping and has the whine of death. I'm looking at trying the Tyler method to see if it will work on my 2004 LX. Has anyone tried it on this year car? The tranny oil smelled burnt after I filled and replaced twice, so I'm of the opinions that I have not much to lose on this other time/effort and some quarts of oil. I'm in So. Cal if hat matters any.

Also looking at rebuilt kits, but that's a rabbit hole I rather avoid.
