2003 Civic/BMXA Flares on Shift

I have a 2003 Civic that flares on shifts. It gets better as it gets hot but still remains. It has 198,000 miles on it and I am going to pull and rebuild the unit. Is this a known problem? Does anyone have any experience with this? I suspect it just has worn or harden seals.

Has the transmission fluid been changed recently? If not I would start there before rebuilding/replacing.

2001 model year (and maybe some 2002) had bad auto transmissions. Later years should be okay but yours does have almost 200k on it.
