manual trans repair or replace?
manual trans repair or replace?
Well yesterday my manual transmission started making some noise 2002 Civic LX and through reading the forums it sounds like its an input shaft bearing.
My question is which is likely the better route to go, have the bearing replaced (and maybe other internal components to extend the life), or find a used one and just swap that in there? What price would I be looking at for each of those repairs?
Any additional advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

well when exactly does the noise occur?
if it is something simple and you have the right tools and the mechanical skills, do it yourself. buying another trans may not be what you need if whats bad is a $10-$50 part.
Now the price to repair anything depends on where you go. just for a bearing, at least a few 100 bucks. now if you want a rebuild, probably more up to a thousand bucks or so. But if you do it yourself, you will save alot.

I wish my tranny would go out ,so I could get a new car.
Just kidding tranny.
I haevnt been able to find any reasonable used transmissions around here (I live in SE michigan so import parts are not so easy to find.
Can anyone suggest where I can get a deal on a new/used trans as thats the route that I was planning to take.

I just recieved my car last week and had the same problem, from when those a$$holes(dealership) changed a peice in my tranny about 3 months ago.the shaft was ruined from bad bearings. Now I drive it and it feels brand new so if I were u I wouldn't buy a new tranny. The price was about $700 dollars, but warrenty covered it.Just to let u know any work the dealer does on ur car u have a 3 month warrenty, here in canada anyways.By the way does ur car make a wierd sound turning right?
