water passage gasket

What's the easiest way to determine if it's this or the head gasket blown? I recently replaced my son's head gasket and now it sounds like it's blown. He hasn't drove it 100 miles since it was replaced, I won't be around it till this afternoon to check for myself but he said " it bubbles out of the radiator on a cold start today" .... Definitely sounds like a blown h.g. to me

There wouldn't be air coming out the top of the radiator if the water passage gasket was bad, it would just leak coolant down the left side of the engine. When you replaced the head gasket did you use a Honda genuine one and get the head checked for warpage? There are a couple methods of testing the head gasket in the thread below.

I'm thinking hg as well. It was an eBay kit he ordered, don't recall the name, I installed after having the head rebuilt From a timing belt failure. Should I use the copper spray this time? Any specific thickness?

Honestly just hoped it was the outlet gasket 😃

Re: water passage gasket

head gasket "fix" additives are the devil. I'd go OEM or bust when it comes to vital gaskets like that. OEM head gasket kit will come with a new water passage gasket, too.

Check out the headgasket link in my signature

I was speaking about the copper spray I used on all the old sbc engines I've done.

Don't, get the OEM head gasket kit. Make sure the block is clean and smooth and get the head checked out, it need to be clean, flat and smooth as well. Almost like glass

Why do you say not to get oem gaskets? Will definitely be looking into why this happened again so fast though.

Re: water passage gasket

Tear down starts first thing tomorrow. Radiator had exhaust gasses entering it via cylinder # 4. Compression test yielded 185 on 1,2 and 3, 200 on cyl. 4. with plugs removed coolant sprayed from cyl. 4 when turning engine over and radiator cap on.
