Alarm not working!

Hi all,

First post, so hopefully I have all the information you require. Thanks in advance for your help!

Car - Honda Civic 2002 1.6 SE Executive 5 doors Auto 4 Speed

Problem - Fobs not working to remotely conduct central locking (set or unlock car). Previously worked fine.

What have I done so far - Replaced batteries in original fob, no change. Replaced fobs and tried to reprogramme, went through process but does not activate or no clicking when clicking the fob (i.e. it doesn't seem to get into the reprogramming stage). Replaced fuses including 50A one (content to try again if suggested!), no change. Replaced receiving unit, no change. I can unlock all of the doors and boot from the driver side door and boot manually, i.e. all doors lock when I lock the driver or boot.

I have a Haynes Manual that I have been following, but getting to a dead end.

Any help or checks I should be doing on this to progress?

Thanks in advance all!

Re: Alarm not working!

Have you reset the ecu on the car with a battery disconnect for 20-30 min?

Re: Alarm not working!

GolNat,

Thanks for your response, I don't know if you are saying that is what has caused the above. I have had battery issues (had to recharge it, every so oft) - so this is most likely the cause.

If you are saying this is a solution, do I just disconnect the battery and wait that allotted amount of time, reconnect and try the sequence of reprogramming the fobs?

Appreciate yours and this forums input - more than I have gotten elsewhere!

Many thanks!

Re: Alarm not working!

disconnecting battery will for sure reset ECU, unlike a weak battery
clean sheet of paper for the ECU, it might forget the issue that was not letting programming happen. Or not.
Cheap and easy thing to try anyway.

Yes disconnect negative terminal of battery and let it sit. Like Sdai said it will “reset” everything. Much like hard restarting a phone or computer.
