Engine oil for d17a

Got an 2003 Coupe with the JDM D17A engine (no number behind the A). The manual basically says every oil is OK but I'd like some recommendations.

We get no more than -15°C in the winter and usually only about -5°C. I've heard a lot of people recommend 5W30 but I've also heard thicker oil like 15W40 is better because of the headgasket issues (no idea if that makes sense). Also how is synthetic oil for that engine? It has 200k km. Any recommendations?

15w-40 is way too thick. I run that in my 6.6l diesel. Either 0w-20 or 5-30 if you drive in HOT HOT weather often.

Alright, thanks! I think I'll get full synthetic 5W30 as a middle ground.
