Engine issue and I cant figure it out

Hi Everyone,
So my head gasket was replaced when the car blew due to an oil leak. The car starts but quickly starts smoking from the air filter cabin under the hood. if you remove the casing , the smoke comes out from the Throttle body that leads into the engine. If i shut the car off , it wont crank back on until its cooled down. Does anyone know what it could be? Im debating it i just need a new engine all together or if its a cooling issue. its an 03 civic ex coupe. Any help would be greatly appreciated since a new engine was quoted at 6k.

Edit- i also want to add that the holes on the air filter housing are broken so it doesnt sit tight over the Throttle body

Sounds like there's a ton of blow by. New engine might be best

Re: Engine issue and I cant figure it out

Thanks for the response I think I might just do that and keep the old engine and have it rebuilt for a spare

Definitely would do a compression test before going any further.

I'm pretty surprised at that quote - JDM 50k engines with miles near me can be had for $1000 and there's no way any respectable shop is charging you $5000 for labor and fluids. I suspect they just don't want to do the job.

Re: Engine issue and I cant figure it out

I was quoted 4800- 6k for both engine swaps and or replacement. Wish the shops near me were reliable

Those respectable shops are nearly impossible to find.
