Is it considered a "pending" trouble code if the CEL shuts off, and can I still possibly pass a CA smog test if they read the error code of the CEL isn't on?

Last week my CEL went on and my OBD sensor read a P0420 - bad catalytic converter. I bought some Cataclean and ran it through the system and a few days later, the CEL shut off and it remains off. But my OBD sensor still shows an error code present. No issues with a bad smell or loss of power driving the car. So I'm wondering, will the smog test site auto-fail the car just from reading the error code, even if the CEL is off and the emissions are within limits?

disconnect battery, wait 10 minutes.
Connect
drive 50-100 miles the ECU will be ready for smog.

if light comes back, consider a defouler plug
repeat ECU reset/readiness

get a cat later on at your leisure, but cat get plugged, so you will eventually need a new one
