Hi everyone; happy 2024. I’m chasing a gross oil leak on my 2004, 1.7L / auto trans civic, and I have a couple of questions, please.
1. Do I understand correctly that the oil leak associated with the oil pump is coming from the little o-ring between the pump and the block?
also 1. Changing that o-ring will seal that leak?
2. Is there any benefit to changing the entire oil pump at the time the o-ring is replaced (260K miles)?
That is one place oil can leak. I have seen some pretty severe oil leaks from that seal. Always end up dumping oil out the back side. Requires timing belt and oil pan removal to get the oil pump off. Seal is part number 91308-P3R-T01.
That is great info; thank you for the quick reply.
I do have the top and side covers off the engine after replacing the camshaft sensor to satisfy a P0340. While I'm this deep I'll pull the oil pan and the pump to replace that oil pump o-ring.
Also, I can see that the camshaft seal is weeping a bit, so it'll be addressed this week. The crankshaft seal looks solid (not leaking), but since I'm this close, I'm going to replace it, too (do you happen to know the p/n of this crankshaft seal?).
But I won't put a new oil pump on there, I'll just replace the o-ring.
You might as well do the timing belt/water pump unless it's been done recently.

You can use a site like HondaPartsNow.com to look them up. For the crankshaft seal you want to go to Engine > Oil pump - oil strainer. It is part number 91212-PLM-A01 (reference 16). Oil pump seal is in this section as well (reference 17).
Many thanks for that clarification. I was looking on the 'fiches for the crankshaft and its seal to appear in one of the exploded images. I couldn't be sure I was getting it right. Thanks again.
Oh, p.s. Timing belt, water pump and tensioner were done about 10 months ago.
