Re: want more mpg, new to this.

It’d take years to recoup any major investment in fuel economy for these cars. I suspect more time than the car has left.

Cheap if you know what you're doing, and even then, there's more that goes into a rebuild than just a rebuild kit.

Just use the car for what it is; cheap and economical transportation. Like Colin said, there are some hypermiler forums that probably focus on this generation of civic, but any substantial investment would yield little benefit because:
1. These cars are already very fuel efficient
2. The only real fix for most cars is weight, but these are already about as light as you can reasonably get without compromising safety.

...but I digress. It's your car. Do as you please. I personally wouldn't waste my time. Alternatively, you could just buy a Civic Hybrid.

yea, i paid 800 for this guy. its got a bit of a valve knock, gonna check lash when i do the head gasket. i was considering pulling the engine and doing a full rebuild on it. probably do it for like 350-400 or so? just finding the motivation. im pretty sure its been overheated really bad a few times

Re: want more mpg, new to this.

Okay, this dramatically changes things.

Improving fuel economy should be the least of your concerns. Focus on having a functional car first.
