What Spark Plugs for 2005 Honda Civic LX ? [solved]
What Spark Plugs for 2005 Honda Civic LX ? [solved]
I have a 2005 Honda Civic LX with the 1.7 Liter Engine. I'm getting a misfire code for the #2 cylinder. Thought I would replace all 4 plugs and the one coil for #2.
This is a new car for me so I don't know much about it. The Manual recommends either the NGK PZFR6F-11 or, the DENSO PKJ20CR-M11 spark plug as a replacement. Both seem pretty pricey.
What is the best plug to buy?
Thanks for your help.

NGK would be the move for me, though it may be worth doing a little more diag before swapping out too much. Swap the coils around and see what happens.

I replaced the old spark plugs today with new NGK Iridium plugs. It's running fine and it's no longer throwing a Check Engine misfire code.
The backstory....I purchased the car last year and even though it's a 2005, it only had 115,000 miles on it. The car was clean and in great shape, but I could tell that the original owner only did maintenance when it was absolutely necessary. When I first got it, I took it to my mechanic to check out the car and he replaced the valve cover gasket because it was leaking.
Back to today...when I pulled all the plugs, they looked original. And they all looked to be in about the same shape - except for the one in the #2 cylinder. The gap was correct but it had some oil buildup that had gotten thick with heat. Considering the bad valve cover gasket, it now makes sense.
The good news is that the process to remove and replace them went well. There were no hitches or issues. And the car is running great with no codes.
Thanks for the good advice!

Glad to hear the car is working well, but it may be worth looking at the state of the timing belt knowing this bit of information. I'd be curious to know if it's ever been done or not.

Thanks FRSam - When I took it to my mechanic to replace the valve cover gasket, I asked him to check everything out. He didn't mention that the timing belt was old or needed replacing. But, I do have some time tomorrow and will check it out myself. Thanks for the tip!
