Help me find correct motor please
Help me find correct motor please
Blown 2002 LX
I need to buy a cheap used motor, and diy swap.
If I buy an eBay motor... What is the right motor? And will I need to change anything?
ECU? It's automatic transmission.
Do I have to flash anything?
I'm wanting to simply pull bad motor... Then drop in good motor. Turn it over and go?
Please help

Re: Help me find correct motor please
LX uses the D17A1.
D17A2 is for the EX model, engine have VTEC. D17A is the JDM engine (Japan rakes the taxes for older cars, so most change cars earlier than other countries)
A and A2 work as well, just the VTEC will not activate, since ECU is not programmed to use VTEC.

Re: Help me find correct motor please
it's a drop in
if you get a D17A/A2, you will not have the connector for the VTEC in the car.
The VTEC in these engines works as:
Low load/RPM, it slightly opens one exhaust valve
higher RPM/Loads, it will fully open that last valve
so, without VTEC activating, the engine will struggle more at higher loads/RPM to breathe - might be slower than the original A1 engine
but should work.
changing the ECU to VTEC and wiring it will be a lot of work, TBH, with the antitheft keys, programming, etc.
so, if you can find a A1 engine, that's the easiest and more straight forward, if not get a A/A2, just know it might be slower

Re: Help me find correct motor please
the only LXI i see is the 80's accord, but it was another 4 bangers, not 6
I also think it was a space missing there.
change mechanic, no one need a VIN number to tell if it is a 4 inline or a V6

Donman123, if it's a civic, recommendations still stand
if it is a non-civic, you need to find a different forum.
If it is a civic and you mechanic said it is a v6, change mechanic...

Re: Help me find correct motor please
all others, calm down. misspelling should not be a fatal error (exception to threads saying "My breaks are not working" - well, if they are breaks, they are supposed to be broken, now if you are talking about brakes, that's a different story)
and if mechanic said it's a v6 civic, it's not OP's fault
