Use an OBD2 reader.

Re: 2001 civic hunting idle after timing belt change

unplug the valve and it goes to a very quick hunting idle. I thought it would stop hunting

It sounds like you’re triggering SRS codes. If you don’t have an OBD2 reader, a parts store will read them for free.

Re: 2001 civic hunting idle after timing belt change

going to go get a reader........also just came back from pull a part with 2 idle air control valves. swapped one in.......idle is not hunting now.. rev it up and let go and it will drop then rev to 1500 then drop down to normal idle. I used shitloads of throttle body cleaner on valve and throttle body. could that have damaged it or removed grease inside the valve causing it to fail or have oddball hunting idle issues?

Re: 2001 civic hunting idle after timing belt change

The idle learn was next try after subbing in used iac valve which fixed hunting issue. I had a hunch that was it after I put a piece of cardboard over iac valve throttle body square hole mostly covered and it smoothed right out. Probably should do idle learn anyway. Btw for any of us that live in road salt infested states.....it sure helps to spray down the 3 phillips screws then beat on the heads of them before attempting removal. That saves on stripped screw heads.

Ok so idle learn is that simple. Then yes I did the idle learn by controlled accident. Cleared codes with battery disconnected then ran it over 10 minutes thinking the coolant needs to burp.
