Oil dipstick showing different levels on each side

I have had this car new since 2010....never noticed that the dipstick shows two different levels when I check. I usually just look at the side that is facing me when I pull it out. Today for some reason I decided to check the other side. The side facing me was on full (warm engine, allowed to sit 2 min before checking). The other side showed halfway between low limit and high limit. I know some cars, Subaru for one, that slide the dipstick at an angle and they always read different on each site. But with this civic the dipstick seems to go in vertical, so it doesn't make sense to me.

Btw, anyone else hate the orange dipstick? I will "calibrate" at the next oil change when I know exactly how much I put in and I will check. That's 5k from now. I will put some Royal Purple in to see the oil, since light/amber oil doesn't show up on the stick nicely.

Car has 227k miles. Runs like a champ. Just changed rotors and pads up front. I do oil changes every 7500 miles, transmission fluid every 30k. I thought it was burning oil, so I changed the PCV valve. And I'm checking the oil religiously till I know things are good. Wife wants to put another 100k on it before we buy another car. She is a keeper.

Re: Oil dipstick showing different levels on each side

Pretty normal for levels to read differently on each side in my experience. Those orange dipsticks are kind of hard to read and It usually reads better on the back of the dipstick compare to the front.

On my mom's 2004 civic I usually take 2 or 3 oil readings wiping off the stick in between re-insertions. I do this during sex with strippers too...lol.
