Re: engine swap

Not a direct swap and not one that gets done (if it even has been done). Will take lots of custom work. Just replace the belt when it needs to be replaced and move on.

Not having a timing belt does not make it better. It's a 90k mile service item that when replaced on time is just as reliable as any chain engine.

Re: engine swap

well, my engine is good but the solenoid is no good, and i found out its the head that is the problem not the ecu or solenoid i changed it 2 times and the ecu 3 times and i still have the light on saying the solenoid is no good,.. so i thought it was best to get the whole engine same year 03, but i hear the 06 is better cause no timing belt,.. thanks

Re: engine swap

Take it to Honda or a capable repair shop and get it properly diagnosed. There is no reason the engine would have to be replaced because some solenoid is bad.

Well 3 different mechanics said it's the head... so to rebuild it cost as much as the whole engine.. that's why I said its better to change the engine... also Honda charge too much for telling me what I already

Re: engine swap

What solenoid? I still don't see how a bad solenoid requires an engine swap.

Re: engine swap

The code it gets said vtech solenoid.. and that's why they said to change the engine head or a new engine cause it is not the solenoid.. it's the head with the problem..

You need alot more than just the engine.....
Unless you put the exact same engine you currently have in

Re: engine swap

An engine from a 06 is $450? An r series engine? An 06 is not the same gen you need an engine from a 7th gen like Colin said.

I would just put a reman head on it.

Re: engine swap

Here I am thinking just bypass the vtec. It’s not worth $850 to have to add it back..

Re: engine swap

Please don't reply to a 15 year old thread with the same question.

Yes you can use a non-VTEC head but obviously you won't have VTEC. Without the solenoid connected you will likely be in limp mode. You would then have to swap the PCM for a NON-VTEC as well.
