New Oil leak, oil over filled
New Oil leak, oil over filled
So my daughter’s car is 2005 civic. Automatic.
she went to college this year so the car has not been in my driveway a lot over the past 3 months. She came home for Christmas and it is leaving two oil spots everywhere she parks. It has 86,000 miles and has not had an oil leak in the two years we’ve had it. She recently got an oil change at sears. I was worried when i saw the amount of oil that she was really low on oil. We checked it yesterday and it is actually over full 3/8”. And the engine is coated in oil. Not from valve covers and not on the side with the timing belt. But the part more in the middle and the side facing the front of the car.
i am afraid it’s the rear main seal. And I don’t know if it’s permanently damaged or if we get the oil drained could it will re-seal??
i put an o2 sensor in it in May and i am certain there was no oil on the engine.
i am sure when i call sears they will deny any responsibility. :-(

Re: New Oil leak, oil over filled
3/8" isnt much, that's about half the dipstick fill zone (1 qt), so its probably a 1/2 quart over.
But find the invoice and see what they filled it to.
non vtec = 3.2L
vtec = 3.5L
sorry not sure what those are in americanese (roughly 3.2qt and 3.5qt)
....
a few drops could just be left over oil from the service, sitting on top of the block, from the filter (these engines have a poorly designed shelf that holds oil there).
