Power Steering Pump Squealing Noise

'01 ES Dimension

My power steering pump is making a squealing noise whenever I rev the car. I thought that the tension of the belt is kinda loose so it is making the noise but when I checked it, belt tension is okay. Fluid is in the proper level and I am not having problem steering the wheel. It's just that it only makes the noise when I rev the car.

What would be the cause of this and how to fix it?

Did you check the condition of the belt or just the tension?what about the alternator belt? You could try tightening it a bit more

Re: Power Steering Pump Squealing Noise

Other Hondas, Odyssey and Accord comes to mind, have an o ring at the power steering pump that when it goes bad creates a grinding type noise in the pump. It lets air into the pump. Replace it and problem solved. There are a few vids on YouTube about it. Not sure if your car has the same O ring. I am not sure if my civic has it, never heard a noise from my civic pump. My Odyssey had the problem was an easy fix. Good luck

The ps pump and alternator belt is in good condition. And I've tried to rev the car without the ps pump belt, and there's no noise so I am sure that it is coming from the pump.

Yeah. I've seen this on YouTube. But I'm thinking this only solved the whirring sound when you steer the wheel left and right. Mine has no weird sound when steering the wheel. You can only hear the squealing sound when you rev the car (2k rpm and above). But might well give this a try.

Re: Power Steering Pump Squealing Noise

If you “hold” the rpm pass 2k does it do tI continually squeak?
While “holding” the rpm high does turning the wheel back and forth make a difference?

Haven't tried turning the wheel while holding the rpm. I'll give a try. But when I hold the rpm 2k and above, the annoying sound is there.

I've tried to steer the wheel back and forth while holding the rpm 2k up, the noise is still there.

Re: Power Steering Pump Squealing Noise

Check for the common defective O-ring at the inlet to the PS reservoir letting in air to the system causing PS pump whine.
