2004 Civic, 1.7 Engine. Valve job

This is my very first post
I pulled the cylinder head due to overheating to replace the gasket. I noticed that one of the intake valves not seated well. ( could be bent )
I’m looking for details procedure on how to remove the valve. I would appreciate if you send me a link.
One more important question please
Do the camshafts need to be removed to remove an intake or exhaust valve ?
Thanks

Your valve is open because the camshaft is doing its job of opening them...
If you remove the camshaft, the valve will close...

Also, moving thread to correct section of the forums.

Re: 2004 Civic, 1.7 Engine. Valve job

I had good success using the listle tool for the valve keepers, definitely one of those right tool for job makes it a lot easier.

I suggest replace the valve seals if your pulling it all apart.

Have the torque sequence for removing and installing, just follow that and everything will just come apart.

Be warned, once out of the head, the rockers will slide right off, keep it level and takes lots photos and notes and maybe use different colored zip ties to keep everything sorted if you decide to disassemble for complete cleaning.

Re: 2004 Civic, 1.7 Engine. Valve job

To remove the valves I suspended the head on some 2x4s, with a towel under the valve I wanted to remove, then placed a deep socket (with a magnet in it) on top of the valve. Then I hit the socket with a mallet to depress the valve. The magnet catches the retainers.

To install them again, I set up the 2x4s and towel, placed the retainers on top of the valve, placed plastic wrap on the retainers, so I'd have something stretchable to hold them in place, and see them. Then used a die ad tap kit, handle, to press the spring down.

Youtube has some videos which helped me.

I also used wood, but next time I will use a styrofoam cooler lid. Kept sliding around too easy on wood.
