My alternator bearing has started going out so I went under the hood to map out the procedure of changing the alternator after watching a few YouTube videos. Right away I saw the mounting bracket for the power steering adjustment screw wasn't attached and the bolt was busted off. The power steering is running fine with no noise coming from it. Is this ok? The car recently had the timing belt and water pump done so the rest of the bolts should come out with no issue. What kind of problems will I run into trying to get the power steering back in?
You are going to struggle to get the pump tight again once you remove that top PS pump bolt. The way it looks, that top bolt may be bent or bending with the adjustment bracket just pinned up against it. I would plan on drilling out that broken bolt and replacing it during your repair. Everything looks pretty rusty so it isn't surprising that it is holding as is. You got this.
