2002 Honda Civic- HORRIBLE Idle noise

Hi, my 2002 Honda Civic is making a high pitched noise when idling. The noise is so loud you can even hear it inside the vehicle. It sounds like a jackhammer almost. Any idea what this could be?

Hi, I have a 2002 Honda Civic and when it is idling, there is a horrible noise. It sounds like a jackhammer--the noise is coming from the outside. Any idea what it could be ?

Check the easy things first: heat shield maybe?

Get under the car while it's running and try putting pressure on the heat shield. If that solves the problem, rip that f***ing thing off!!!
