Rep Power: 0 ? about replacing thermostat
Hindsight is 20/20. Let my Dad talk me into letting someone I didn't trust work on my car . (It is a 2002 Honda Civic EX.) He put a cheap thermostat on it that I am replacing with a Honda ASAP. (I am going to a Honda dealership to buy a new one Saturday.) Someone mentioned that there was a sensor I needed to go ahead and replace when I did the thermostat. What sensor do I need to replace? Also, does the coolant system have to be burped when they are done?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Wait, what was the problem?
Pffft.
When was the head gasket job done?

And if it never quits burping bubbles out.......it needs a head gasket job.

it sticks open in very cold weather. silly I know. never seen one do that. once the engine is warm it is okay but takes forever. Just wanted to make only need to replace this cheap thermostat and don't want to take chances. I am not sure when the head gasket was done but it has been done. heater hoses, heater core and heater control valve are 1000 miles old. my mechanic checked the head gasket then. I have never had a problem with a car running to cold...

Make sure the jiggle pin is lined up right with the gasket, and is installed with the jiggle pin at the very top.
I lift the nose of the car up to bleed it faster in the shop, high enough to get the radiator higher than the hose outlet on the engine so the air can get out. (Might not be safe for you to do this though.)
