Dashboard dials all zero but car is running

larynx is an unknown quantity at this point
Dashboard dials all zero but car is running
About 30% of the time after starting my car, the engine runs fine but the dashboard dials (speed, rpm) all show zero. It automatically corrects itself about 3 miles into the drive. What could be the problem?
