Positive alternator cable severed

This is my first time using the Civic forum, so I apologize if this issue has already been addressed. The positive alternator cable on my 2001 Civic is completely severed right where it connects to the alternator under the protective boot. It's my understanding that this cable runs and connects to the fuse box. I have been looking for the part online to replace that cable, with no luck. I also am having difficulty following its path to the fuse box. I have also heard of people replacing the cable and re-routing directly to the positive battery terminal. One person even taped off the original cable that was broken, and left it in the car...and put a new one in connecting directly to the battery.

I apologize if there are other forums on this topic already, but I couldn't find this exact issue. I can attach pictures of the break as well if it helps guide solutions. Thanks in advance!

Re: Positive alternator cable severed

I don't feel like searching through the thousands of threads on this forum to post up an answer for you, so here's what my google-fu yielded. That, and I can't readily recall any threads regarding positive alternator line replacement.

Source: Honda-Tech thread
Positive alternator line is connected directly to the fuse box at terminal T101 (right of the two bolts on the front of the fuse box)

This thread from our forum has a section where they upgrade the positive wire and connect it directly to the battery. To be honest, I don't know if there are any pros/cons to wiring one way or the other, if the ELD would be happy with it connected to the battery or where it initially was connected, etc. I know if the ELD is not happy, it throws a CEL. If you're not looking for any performance upgrades and just want to connect it like it was OEM, go with the fuse box route. That's what I'd do. If you wanted to get a brand new OEM one, I'd venture a guess that the specific alternator wire is only sold connected to the engine wire harness, so you'd have to buy the entire wire harness. Orrr. you can buy a length of 10ga (or thicker) wire and make your own replacement.
