New to me '02 EX
New to me '02 EX
I just bought a $500 2002 EX Coupe, with keyless entry.
Both key fobs light up with the red LED light, when the buttons on the remote are pressed (lock / unlock / panic).
- No response from the car, crickets......
Locking the drivers door, with manually inserting the key into the drivers door lock cylinder will lock the passenger door also.
Sitting inside the vehicle, and operating the power lock button on the drivers door master switch, both doors will lock / unlock with the power switch. The courtesy dome light dims when the car is locked with the key.
I've tried about a dozen times to "reprogram" the remotes to the car, to no avail.
-
I'm starting to think the Multiplex Control Unit / Keyless Receiver Unit, what ever it's called has failed.
- Are there any negative effects for when I diagnose / swap this unit out?
- Any what if scenarios, since I'm like the 10th owner of this car & I have NO REPAIR HISTORY of this vehicle? I can see the alternator was replaced within the last few years, due to it isn't as dirty as the other components.
Is this something that fails with age, or do these fail, due to a chain of events (improper alternator replacement)?
Thank you

Re: New to me '02 EX
You can check to make sure the receiver is even installed in the car. It is located behind the panel with the 12V socket. You should see a little black box mounted to a metal reinforcement bracket. If you do replace the receiver all you have to do is reprogram the remotes afterwards.
There are at least two different types of remotes that both look the same. The US Si uses a different remote than the EX. Have any part numbers on your remotes?
