I have a intermittent electrical problem that is driving me and my mechanic buddies nuts. 2002 Honda Civic HX

It happens a few times a month. I will be driving my car and Ill hear my radio cut out for a split second which lets me know it is happening. So if I hit my brakes or turn on my heat or AC everything cuts out for a quick second. The lights go dim, the radio shuts off then back on right away, and all my gauges go down along with the SRS light coming on. But everything comes right back on in less than a second.

Now it may cut off a few more times by hitting the brakes or turning on the heat or AC but the problem will only go on for a few minutes then it does not come back for weeks sometimes months. The problem never leaves me stranded, it only cuts out for less than a second, its never enough to kill the engine. I replaced the alternator and load detector, cant think of what else it could be.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, love my Civic

thats happened to me before. it usually happens if i run alot of electrical stuff while the car is at low speeds or idling. do you have any electrical mods? such as a subwoofer, fog lights, etc? it might be that your devices are just draining too much of the battery and the alternator cannot keep up.

dealer couldnt figure this out either, but it was solved when i got a better battery, the stock one sucked.

No, my car is completely stock, and like I said, it is random, I can never get it to happen when I want to... it only happens a few times a month.

I was having the same problem with my car over the last week. All of my dash lights would come on and then the power would gradually go out (gauges, radio, lights, etc.).

When I put a meter on the battery it read about 12v with the car off. When the car was running with all electronics turned off it was 13v which is a little low. Typically, it should be in the 13.5 to 14.5 range. When I turned on a few things the voltage dropped to the low 9's...

I got the alternator replaced today. Hopefully it fixes the problem but from what I've been reading it may not...

Sounds like a alternator is your problem, but my problem is much different. It is very random, sometimes only happens 1 time a month. My car goes into this "mode" where I can hit the brakes or turn on the heat / AC and it will cut out for a second.. then it wont do it for a month or so...
